We had an interesting visit on the weekend from a pair of treasure hunters, I guess you would call them, that like to visit places of historical significance.

Rod Metz, a history teacher from Medicine Hat, and Jean Figeat, an Edmonton Sun employee from Edmonton, were both equipped with metal detectors that could detect metal objects 16 inches below the ground’s surface.

They scoured the site of original Endiang, where they found a 1919 American dime, lots of small metal objects from that era, and a piece of molten lead that someone had carved information into.

The lead piece, a little smaller than the palm of a hand, had the initials E.B. inscribed, as well as Lincoln, Nebraska, and Union, Wyoming, USA and also Leo, Canada.

Any readers have any idea who E.B. might have been?

The men also visited the site of the Clear Lake picnics, where they found a number of coins, one dating back to 1900, a pearled cuff-link and military button.

In its heyday, during the 1920s, Clear Lake was a popular recreation spot that attracted thousands for its picnics, water events, dances at the hall, boxing matches, ball games and even plane rides.

The terrible drought years of the 1930s destroyed the wonderful recreation area forever.

Local students were among those attending the Grade 5-6 camp at Circle Square Ranch, north of Halkirk, last week.

Ryan and Jacquelin Gallagher and their two young children, Ava and Herbie, have moved into Byemoor.

We welcome this young family back to the community. They plan on relocating to Gordie and Roxy Gallagher’s acreage at a later date.

The Kobi clan held their annual family reunion at Nevis on the weekend of June 16-17. The next reunion will be held in 2014.

We send get-well wishes to Evelyn Walker, who recently had open-heart surgery in Calgary. We hope your recovery is a speedy one, Evelyn.

The Jones family held their family reunion in Byemoor this past weekend, with nearly 100 people attending, the furthest coming from Kamloops, B.C. The camping area was filled with many trailers.

Kate Woelk and Debbie Grams returned home Saturday from three days at Manitou Beach, which is the mineral spa located near Watrous, Sask.
