Thieves target Halkirk area

Break-ins and burglaries have been been happening in and around Halkirk lately.

HALKIRK HERALD -- The seniors held their first meeting of the new season on Tuesday, Sept. 20. The new carpet has been laid on the floors and on part of the walls as soundproofing at the centre. Bingo has started, and the next bingo day is in the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 27. Floor curling started after the meeting and will be held every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. All monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday, and are preceded by a potluck supper starting at 6 p.m. New members are always welcome. The next meeting is Oct. 18.

Break-ins and burglaries have been been happening in and around Halkirk lately. Please remember to lock things up. It’s unfortunate that this is going on.

We extend get-well wishes to Stan Smith, who suffered a broken hip at home and is recuperating in the Red Deer Hospital.

John and Judy deMos drove to Ontario recently for a holiday. They visited with family and friends, all the while taking in some sightseeing. They rented a house in Prescott that was built in 1830. The stone walls were a foot-and-a-half thick, though the inside had been modernized. Prescott is right on the St. Lawrence Seaway and was only a short walk away, as was Fort Wellington. They returned home before the leaves started to change. It was typical Ontario weather humid, though so dry in some areas that fire bans were still in effect. A good holiday, but it’s always nice to be home.
