June is almost over. Which means school is finishing up for the summer and the real fun begins at the library! Ashley and I have completed our school presentations about the Summer Reading program so hopefully those brochures made it home, if not please call or stop by the library for information and registration.

I should note that the program is completely free! We will be spending the summer exploring the great things Canada has to offer in order to celebrate our nation’s sesquicentennial anniversary, which is just a fancy way of saying 150th birthday. The program runs from July 3 to August 25, Monday to Friday with daily activities planned.

To finish off June, we are having a Nerf War at the library on Friday, June 23, from 6-8 p.m. We do have a couple spots left so please call the library to register. All participants are required to have eye protection, a Nerf gun and accessories. Pizza will be ordered.

Starting the Summer Reading program, we will be making Tie Dye t-shirts here at the library. Join us on Tuesday, July 4 from 10:30 a.m. to noon with the Canoes, of ages six to eight; 12:30 to 2 p.m. with the Ski-Doos, of ages nine to 12; and on Thursday, July 6 with the Zambonis, of ages 13-16. Pre-registration is required for this so please call or stop by the library to get your kids signed up. This has the potential to get messy so we suggest not wearing nice clothes that day!

We are having a bowling kickoff party on Wednesday, July 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. to start the summer off right. So please call the library to pre-register so we know how much ice cream we should get for everyone. We will be meeting at Heartland Bowl for this event.

Also, this summer we are hosting Teen Cooking Mondays with maple candied bacon on the menu for Monday, July 3, starting at 3:30 p.m. Who doesn’t love maple, candy and bacon?! All Teen Cooking Mondays require pre-registration.

If you missed out on June’s Art Club event do not fret as there will be another one in July. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, July 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. This is open to anyone from age six. You can create your own masterpiece to display at home or here at the library! Please pre-register at 403-742-2292.

As always, for the most updated information please check spl.prl.ab.ca, or our Facebook page for news of any other neat events and activities!
