Geese have returned, and are those buds on the trees?

Signs of spring are steadily, but slowly showing up. To jumpstart your plans for spring, check out our collection of gardening and landscape books and DVDs. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or venturing into the fun of growing things for the first time, you’ll find new information to help and challenge you.

With the glories of a new season bursting onto the outdoor scene, sharpen your photography skills with our evening event, Take Better Pictures, on Wednesday, April 10, at 6:30 p.m. Pre-register for this session with Rob Brennen of Wild River Images when you’ll take your camera off auto mode and discover essential settings for fabulous images. Ages 18 and up.

The creative juices have been flowing and our collection of entries into the Peeps Diorama Contest is growing. Come into the library and vote for your favourite entry today. The contest closes on April 10.

Be sure to stop by the library and vote for your favourite diorama during the Trade Show (April 12 and 13) while you browse for treasures at the Friends of the Stettler Library’s semi-annual book sale. We are still accepting donations of gently used books through Saturday, April 6 at 6 p.m.

Children:

Something cool awaits kids aged 6 and up after school, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m.

On Thursday, April 4, we’ll be playing around with making our own stop-motion videos. On Tuesday, April 9, make a handprint that you’ll turn into a beautiful bouquet of lilies. Then on Thursday, April 11, create your own lava lamp with Alka-Seltzer.

Read and Rhyme, for children 0-5 years and their parents, is a time-honoured way to introduce little ones to the magic of literature. We meet Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. for songs, stories, and fun.

To keep the reading going, be sure to sign up for the free app 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and receive a small prize for each milestone you reach.

Only three months remaining in this school year! If your child could use help with academics, one-on-one tutoring might help. We offer free, half-hour sessions for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in all subjects. Call to book an appointment.

Teens and ’Tweens:

Come relax and make a sweet-smelling bath bomb for yourself or to give as a gift, on Wednesday, April 10, at 4:30 p.m. Be sure to pre-register. Ages 10+.

Join Jasper and fellow adventurers for a night of imagination, strategy, and storytelling at Dungeons & Dragons, Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Ages 13 and up. Snacks and fun are guaranteed.

Adults:

For a fun time with other adults who enjoy games, movies and crafts at a relaxed pace, join the Afternoon Friends each Tuesday at 1 p.m. On Tuesday, April 9 we’ll play Bingo (with prizes!)

Book a spot today for Crystal’s Crafting Club on Thursday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. when we’ll try our hand at embroidering a dish towel to keep or gift to someone special.

Pick up a copy of Greenwood, by Michael Christie and join the Reader’s Circle on Wednesday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m. for a scintillating discussion of this novel spanning the past, present, and future of a family’s fortunes with a forest.

Do you know someone experiencing cognitive decline? Minds in Motion is a program developed by the Alzheimer Society to enhance cognitive faculties and social interaction. All are welcome, including caregivers, to meet with us on Thursdays at 1 p.m.

Al-Anon meets Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. to offer support and coping strategies for those affected by alcoholism

All Ages:

Tales at 11, a storytime for the whole family, happens on Saturdays at 11 a.m. We’ll be opening up the Interactive Gaming Zone following.

Enjoy the company of other Lego maniacs as we experiment and create with our favourite bricks, on Saturday, April 6, at 3 p.m. Ages 6 and up are welcome.

For gamers, Monday night is at-home gaming night. Meet online at 8 p.m. with gamers from Rocky Mountain House and Stettler. We chat via Discord – you can call the library for the link.

Looking for a fun, healthy outing for the family? We have two weekly Family Passes to the Rec Centre available to be borrowed by library patrons. If you don’t have a library membership, they are free to residents of Stettler Town or County.
