HALKIRK HERALD -- Santa arrived in Halkirk on Sunday morning just in time to pass out candy bags to almost 50 youngsters who lined up to tell him what they wanted for Christmas. The Elks annual pancake breakfast was well attended, in many cases with third and fourth generations of a family to celebrate the season. It was so great to see all the young folks, former Halkirk students, working in the kitchen cooking, cleaning and visiting.

On Friday evening, Dec. 9 the Elks held their volunteer appreciation Christmas supper at the Hall with 75 or so guests. The Elks need and appreciate the volunteers from the community who step up and help out with many projects and events that they sponsor. Representing Elks Canada was Leonard Shain and his wife Barb from Sherwood Park. A delicious roast beef dinner was catered by Ann Michielsen.

There have been several local organizations and businesses holding their Christmas parties in our town while others are travelling to out of town venues.

Congratulations to Kurt and Erin Chick on the arrival of a 7 lb. 8 oz. baby girl, Brexley Jaymes, born in the Stettler Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 7. The Chicks also have a three-year-old son, Hunter. This is grandchild No. 11 for David and Linda and great grandparents Harold and Velma are always pleased to have a new baby in the family.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Hazel Duncan, wife of the late Harry Duncan, who passed away on Friday, Dec. 2 in Calgary. Several descendants of the original Duncan family from here attended the memorial service at the Mountain View Chapel in Calgary on Friday.

Members of Engel family met at the home of Ron and Deirdre Muncy last Saturday to celebrate an early Christmas. Attending were Don and Kjerene; Jennifer and family; Brad, Erica and girls: Dianne; Mckenzie and girls: Wayne: Doris; Adrian, Cassandra and family; Rae-anne, Mark and Lily: Corrine; Blade and Kelly. Thank goodness the power stayed on!

Dennis and Kate Turre spent several days holiday in Maui along with several locals who made Hawaii their destination of choice this year. They reported that it is the rainy season.
