Curling club volunteers are busy preparing the ice for the coming bonspiels.

HALKIRK HERALD -- Curling club volunteers are busy preparing the ice for the coming bonspiels. Both men’s and ladies’ bonspiels will be held during the week of Monday, March 6. To curl on a team or to enter a rink, please call JD or Sandra at 403-884-2250. Let’s see if we can interest a dozen first-time curlers to enter their names.

Happy Valentine’s day to all our readers. Let’s make it a very special day.

On Thursday, Feb. 16, the seniors will be hosting their annual Valentine’s Day floor curling bonspiel, coffee and lunch will be available to those wishing to cheer on their favourite team. On Monday, Feb 20, it will be a family day for the community, sponsored by the FCSS at the Senior Centre from noon till 3 p.m.

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, potluck supper at the Senior Centre at 6 p.m. will be held, followed by a guest speaker at 7 p.m. explaining fraudulent schemes and elder abuse that target the seniors. Everyone, regardless of their age, is invited to attend.

We extend a warm welcome to Thomas and Stephanie Schmidt from Erskine to our community. They have purchased the former home of Irene and the late Ben Schilling.

We offer sympathy to the family of Albert Brown who passed away on Friday, Jan. 27 in the Castor hospital at the age of 88.

Albert and Kay were great supporters of our community. Services were held on Friday at the Knox United church.

Sandra Johnson, Clara Nibourg and Peggy Vockeroth curled in the Castor ladies’ spiel with Helen Brigley. They made it to the B final.

Sheryl Bunbury and Dean Coulthard curled with an out-of-town group. Kathy Krautt curled on a Castor team and the Howe girls, Erin and Jill brought in a fun bunch of curlers.

JD Johnson, Tony Nibourg, Dan Fowler and Rocky Dahmer are curling in the Calumet bonspiel. Calumet is located west of Bashaw and they run a unique spiel where they accept 32 rinks, you curl three games on the same day and those who make to the fours go back this Saturday to play in the semi and/or the finals.

Dick and Ann Creasy recently spent 10 days at the Riviera Maya in Mexico. Besides laying on the beach they attended a wonderful Cirque du Soleil performance.
