The Byemoor Snowmobile Poker Rally, sponsored by the Sullivan Lake West Agricultural Society, had a good turnout on March 10. There were 150 snowmobiles and almost 300 hands went out.

The 40-mile route looped through the Byemoor – Endiang districts. Warm weather had the snow disappearing fast, but fortunately, it lasted long enough for the rally to be completed.

Congratulations to Ryan Schilling of Halkirk on having the winning poker hand, a Full House with Aces over Twos. His lucky hand netted him $2,475.

Congratulations also to the raffle draw winners – Justin Jones, of Byemoor won the merchandise donated by Heartland Marine and Motorsports, Erskine and Mike Bell, of Drumheller won the prize donated by ProNature/ Romar Powersports, Stettler. Thanks to these sponsors and all who supported the rally and volunteered.

Brad and Shellbea Paulsen have returned from an enjoyable vacation to Antigua. They traded the white snow of Alberta for the white sand of the beautiful Caribbean island. Sounds like a wonderful trade.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Joan Broome of Stettler who passed away on Feb. 29 at the age of 78.

Joan was the daughter of Charlie and Barbara Schilling and grew up in the Halkirk–Endiang area with her siblings Yvonne, Chuck, Doris, Glenna and Morris.

Our thoughts are with Joan’s husband Stan, her children Trevor, Crystal and Tina and their families and her siblings and their families in their sad loss.

Another area history book is in the works; a committee has been formed to produce the book Hanna North II – The Next Generation.

The book will cover the period from 1978 (when the original Hanna North history book was published) to the present. The general area will be the same and will include the Watts, Dowling Lake, Scapa, Garden Plain, Solon and Meadowlands districts.

Anyone living or who has lived in this area since 1978 is welcome to submit their family stories, and anyone wishing to assist with the project is asked to contact the committee. Contacts can be found on Facebook.

The Canadian Geese are back and gophers have been spotted so spring must be just around the corner.

Humour for the Day

”If you think you are too small to make a difference, you haven’t spent the night with a mosquito.”

“The boss told me to start every presentation with a joke. The first slide was my pay cheque.”

“If you arrest a Mime, do you have to tell him he has the right to remain silent?”

“The WiFi went down during our family dinner so we couldn’t use our cell phones. I chatted with my family, they seem like nice people.”
