Botha Booster

A week from today (Nov.19) will be a BCC meeting, so the committee is hoping everyone can join them then. They are always looking for new members.

Next Bingo evening will be Tuesday, Nov. 25 starting at 7:15 p.m. at the Botha Seniors’ Centre. This Bingo evening will be a regular one, as they have rescheduled the turkey bingo for the evening of Dec. 9.

But the loonie pot and jackpot has not been won for quite a while, which means it has really grown, so come on out Tuesday, Nov. 25 and try out your luck; who knows, you could be one of the lucky ones winning one or both of these. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Quilting happens Monday, Nov. 24, starting at 9:30 a.m., so make sure you join the ladies that day for a great time.

Wednesday mornings, starting at 10 a.m., join your friends at the seniors’ centre for a great visit over a cup or two of fresh hot coffee. Then starting at 1 p.m. is carpet bowling time. Come out and have some fun and play a game with them; a great way to spend a Wednesday.

Then, Thursdays, starting at 1 p.m. is floor curling time. Come and join in a great game.

There will be no more seniors’ meetings now till Jan. 5, 2015 starting at 12 noon. These meetings start with a pot luck luncheon, so please bring something to share with you. The meeting follows right after the pot luck. So, they are hoping all seniors can attend.

Talk about great weather until this past weekend, when old man winter decided to hit us again. It was great to have a descent winter for a change after the last couple of past ones we have had. This past weekend it started snowing again and the weather got a little colder, which is good for the hunters out there, or people who enjoy winter like conditions. But hopefully it doesn’t last long and hopefully it continues being a mild winter this year.

If you would like to rent a reasonable rate hall or would like to find out more information about it, or the arena please contact Shaun Deer at 403-742-4811, and he will be happy to answer all your questions.

The monthly village office meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 27 starting at 7 p.m. So please keep this in mind and plan to attend. They would love to see everyone come out to these.

In ending this column for this week, I have found a letter that I would like to share, which was written to Mrs. Hart. It was from the Department Of National Defence (Army) and dated October 19, 1945. It reads like this and seeing its November (Remembrance Day month), I have attached it.

Mrs. Clare Alma Hart,

Gen. Del.

Botha, Alta.

(Harold Hart Citation)

Dear Mrs. Hart:

It is with pleasure that I write you on behalf of the Minister of National Defence and Members of the Army Council to congratulate you and the members of your family on the honor and distinction which has come to your son, Sergeant Harold Hart, through his being mentioned in Despatches in recognition of gallant and distinguished services.

The King’s Certificate in connection with this award will be forwarded in due course. Present indications are that some time will elapse before the Certificate is available.

Yours sincerely,

(C.L. Laurin) Colonel,

Director of Records for Adjutant-General
