BYEMOOR/ENDIANG NEWS -- Endiang was the scene of the “Hard-times” Funspiel hosted by the Endmoor floor curling club on Monday, Feb. 27 at the Endiang Hall.

Nearly 50 floor curlers participated; many dressed in the hard-times theme. The seniors feel with higher utility costs, higher taxes, Carbon levy, etc. everyone will be in for hard-times again. Joan Morrison of Delia won the best-dressed contest.

In a Funspiel, curlers from all the communities are mixed together for just a fun day of curling.

Top team of the day was that of Larry Church, Botha; Nadine Schwartz, Castor; Eva Nielsen, Delia and Jacquie Dietrich, Halkirk.

Other curlers hailed from Hanna, Big Valley, Round Hill, Stettler and of course Endiang-Byemoor.

Everyone went home with a prize and enjoyed the lunch catered by Karyn Ironside Tateson of The Lilac Room.

The weather lately has seen temperatures fluctuate up and down like a yo-yo, making for some very icy conditions.

Gordie and Roxy Gallagher along with Doug and Lori Roberts of Stettler have returned from a six-week vacation to the warmer climate of the southern U.S. They drove their motorhomes down and enjoyed seeing many sites of interest in Arizona and California. Sounds like a wonderful break from winter.

Byemoor Hotel was packed on Saturday night, with entertainment provided by the talented duo, “Mark and Heather” of Hanna.

Tyson and Kary Lyn Keith celebrated their 30th birthdays with a joint party at the hotel on Saturday evening, where they were joined by many friends and family.

March 1 was a sad day for the community as it marked the first day of closure of the Byemoor store, post office and gas bar. Canada Post has set up metal boxes on the north side of Main Street west of the hotel. Large parcels and registered letters will need to be picked up in Hanna now.

This marks the first time since the birth of Byemoor in 1925 that the hamlet has been without a store and post office.

Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead on Sunday morning, March 12, as we spring forward one hour for Daylight Saving Time.

Congratulations to Mrs. Mandi Reitmann, one of the Byemoor School teachers, on being recognized as a “star member” of the Clearview School Division.

Several Byemoor-Endiang folks took in Lisa Brokop’s performance “The Patsy Cline Project” at the Stettler Performing Arts Centre on Sunday.
