Kid’s Carnival goes Saturday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. at the arena. The dance beginning at 9 p.m. at the arena wraps up the Saturday activities.

Congratulations to Tanis Longshore and Travis James on the birth of their daughter Maryn Rae James on July 29. Maryn weighed seven pounds 15 ounces and is a little sister for Rylyn and Kylie.

Congratulations are also in order for the grandparents Dave and Lynne Longshore and Frank and Edith James.

Visitors with Les and Rosemary Stulberg on Tuesday, Aug. 8 were Rosemary’s cousins Jeanette Sutherland from Maple Valley, Washington — in the greater Seattle area — and Carol Kashuba from Rumsey. They also visited with Rosemary’s mother Dorothy Diprose who was spending a week with Les and Rosemary convalescing from surgery.

Happy sweet 16th birthday wishes go out to Rachel Yates on Aug. 16. Rachel celebrated her special birthday with a day in Red Deer with her friends.

Several local folks attended the wedding of Lori Blake and Lyle Hronek in Hanna on Saturday, Aug. 12, including many Sorensen, Walker and Stulberg cousins.

Lori is the daughter of Gordon and Shirley Robertson of Hanna. Gordon was raised at Endiang, the son of Walter and Bernice Stulberg.

Kirk Sorensen and Gaylynn (nee Sorensen) Lelek capably handled the master of ceremonies duties at the wedding.

Lori is well-known throughout Alberta for her music DJ business.

Congratulations Lori and Lyle and best wishes for many happy years together.

Congratulations to Rylee Jones who was named Top Junior pledge earner for the third year in a row at the Rumsey Ride for STARS on Sunday, August 13. Rylee brought in more than $3,400 for STARS. Great job, Rylee.

Rob, Rhonda and Hunter Maginn have been enjoying visits from their family from Ontario. Rob’s dad, sister and brother-in-law had a week-long visit with the Maginn’s at their lake cabin in Saskatchewan. Rob’s dad and a friend also spent time at Byemoor. Then Rhonda’s sister, niece and her fiancé also from Ontario came to visit. The Maginn’s toured their family to Jasper as well.

We send anniversary wishes to Clifford and Lynda Wilkie who celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 18. Congratulations Clifford and Lynda on this golden milestone and best wishes for many more happy years.

Happy Birthday wishes to Ken Schultz on his 82nd birthday on August 22.

Dry conditions persist in our district, generating an early harvest this year. If the Byemoor ball tournament can’t bring on a rain, nothing can.

A note for those interested in astronomy — a total solar eclipse will occur on Monday, August 21 as the earth, moon and sun are in perfect alignment. Although the best views will be in the United States, the view here will likely be quite amazing as well, as the sun is blocked from view. The last time a total eclipse occurred was in 1979.
