Halkirk’s Devon Johnson on All-Star U16 softball team

The U16 team out of Elnora win silver; Johnson and Coronation’s Tristen Shaw played on the team.

A much needed rain fell during the week with a small amount of hail and lots of wind. However more rain is needed to fill the heads.

We send congratulations out to Don and Kjerene Engel who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on July 23, with a party hosted by their family, daughter Jennifer and Colin Pekrule and son Brad and Erica Engel and their families at Leduc. The cousins, Dan and Clara, Dick and Ann, Rocky and Louanne, Murray and Linda, Ross and Karen joined with Dons siblings Doris and Dennis, Wayne and Dianne on a day that was also Dons 65th birthday.

Congratulations to Chad and Melitta Sorensen on the arrival of a 7 lbs. 10 oz. baby girl, Temperance Louise, on July 17 in Stettler. Chad and Melitta have a two-and-a-half year old son, Nash and make their home near Big Valley. Proud grandparents are Neil and Lorna Walgenbach and Jim and Leanne Sorensen.

David and Linda Chick were among the guests who attended the afternoon ceremony and dinner when their nephew, Brady Gabert received his “call to the bar” at Rocky Mountain House on July 24. Chireen Chick also attended. Brady is the son of Greg and Cathy Creasey Gabert.

Les and Cathy Kneeland attended a Michielsen reunion at the weekend in Castor at the home of Cathy’s brother, Henry and Debbie Michielsen. All 10 siblings and many of their families were able to attend. Great picture taking opportunity.

The U16 ball team of Jr. girls out of Elnora brought home a silver medal in a game against Victoria in the Western Canada finals in Calgary this week. Devon Johnson from Halkirk and Tristen Shaw from Coronation were selected to play with the All Star team.

Castor U10 boys team won the silver medal last weekend in Didsbury. Some of the team and their families enjoyed the hospitality of Dianne Engel-Kimmell and McKenzie Kimmell between the games.
